 About Red Envelopes or (hóngbāo)

In Chinese and other East Asian and Southeast Asian societies, a red envelope, red packet, or hóngbāo (Chinese; 红包) is a monetary gift which is given during Chinese New Year or special occasions such as weddings, graduation or the birth of a baby. The red colour of the envelope symbolises good luck and is a symbol to ward off evil spirits.
